Leachate Ponds
Leachate ponds are used to transmit leachate that collected by the perforated pipes to the Leachate Treatment Plant. They are constructed in designated dimensions and covered with geomembrane to prevent any leakage.
Water collected from landfill comprises of storm water and leachate. Also water collected from rehabilitation site is only comprises of leachate because an impermeable covering layer is establishes throughout the surface of the site. This layer obstructs storm water to diffuse into the waste. Therefore leachate ponds of landfills are bigger than rehabilitation sites'.
